Pokerstars.com is truly the world’s biggest online poker website.  The company is ten years old and going from strength to strength.  Here’s a few figures: the site has, at its busiest times, around 300,000 people playing at its virtual tables, with that figure set to rise and rise.  In December 2009 it hosted an online tournament, the entry for which was $1.  It broke records as almost 150,000 people took part.  When the leading online poker room deals in large numbers it really doesn’t mess about.

And talking of large numbers, here’s an even bigger one: 50 billion.  That’s the amount of poker hands Pokerstars is going to have dealt in the ten years of its existence.  And very soon this milestone of 50 billion will be reached. That is some feat.  And to mark this special achievement the site is having one almighty celebration, with lots of special prizes, free-rolls, VIP club cash bonanzas and tournaments all timed to coincide with the arrival of that very special 50 billionth hand.

So what have Pokerstars got lined up?  Well, from September 16th through to the 50 billionth hand itself there’s huge cash prizes up for grabs, special sit and go tournaments running all day every day worth $50,000 to the winner (50 of them, naturally).

It gets better. Players can also earn $50 for every VIP Players Points that they earn in the 50 previous hands on that particular table if they’re dealt into every millionth hand.  And then the winner of that hand has his prize doubled. All this should take us up nicely to the 50 billionth hand and when the momentous occasion is reached the lucky players who are dealt with this hand will get $500 for every VIP Players Points that they have earned in the previous 50 hands on that table, in addition to complimentary entries to the $5,200 WCOOP Main Event. The winner of this hand will have his prize doubled as well.

All in all Pokerstars are giving away over a million dollars in prizes in celebration of this very special event.  We can only imagine what they have in mind for the 100 billionth hand.
