2009 WSOP Update: Congrats Once Again to Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey

He did it again. Phenoman Phil Ivey wins his second golden bracelet in the 2009 WSOP, his 7th golden bracelet ever. This positions Ivey in 6th place (along with Billy Baxter) in the all time WSOP bracelet winners list, second only to poker legends: Phill Hellmuth (11 bracelets), Johny Chan (10), Doyle Brunson (10), Juhnny Moss (9) and Erik Seidel (8).

Ivey scored his second bracelet in event # 25, the $2,500 Omaha 8-or-better/Seven-card Stud 8-or-better after beating 376 players, including 8 other finalists. He won a cash prize of $220K to go along with the bracelet. Ivey won his first golden bracelet of 2009 WSOP in event #8, the Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball (No-Limit), where he won a cash prize of $96K.

This is the second time for Ivey to win multiple bracelets in one year. His first time was in 2002 when he won 3 golden bracelets, in the Limit S.H.O.E, Limit 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo, and Limit 7 Card Stud.

With a history of two final tables, but no golden bracelet, Runner up Ming Lee had to settle for second place and a cash prize of $136K. Two time golden bracelets winner Carlos Mortensen finished third and won a cash prize of $89,000. Other final table participants include: Dutch Boyd, Jon “PearlJammer” Turner, Eric Buchman, Tom Koral, Peter Gelencser and Steve Wong.
