A Thrilling End to the 2009 WSOPE

Another World Series of Poker Europe Tournament is concluded, in what had been an exciting and star swarming main event. 334 players registered in this No Limit Texas Holdem event, all yearning for a piece of a prize pool of more than £3,000,000. After 4 days of intensive play, 9 players got to join the final table, leaving behind some of the biggest names in professional poker, including, 7 time golden bracelet winner Phil Ivey, 4 time golden bracelet winner Huck Seed, Gus Hansen, poker legend Doyle Brunson and so many more.

Final table participants included:  James Akenhead, Mattew Hawrilenko, Antoine Saout, Cris Biorin, Markus Ristola, Jason Marcier, Praz Bansi, Daniel Negreanu and Barry Shulman. At the end it was Barry Shulman who went home with the coveted golden bracelet and a cash prize of £800,000, after beating leading player Daniel Negreanu in an intensive heads up match. Negreanu had to settle for second place and a cash prize of a little less than £500,000.

Interesting enough, Shulman’s son, Jeff is one of the players heating the 2009 World Series of Poker final table, this coming November. Should Jeff Shulman win this event, it will be the first time where the same family scores a World Series of Poker “double”, winning main event for both WSOP and WSOP Europe.
