Mike Sexton Joins the Poker Hall of Fame
Mike Sexton is the new member of the Poker Hall of Fame. The 62 years old player was the only nominee who managed to receive 75% of the panel’s votes, which is the minimum requirement to be selected to the Poker Hall of Fame.
Hall of Fame members are selected by a special panel, assembled from 15 media representatives and 15 existing members of the Poker Hall of Fame.
Sexton is an accomplished player. He has hold career earnings of a little more than $3.7M, and is ranked 75 in the all time poker players money list. He has 46 WSOP cashes but managed to win only one golden bracelet, back in 1989.
But it seems that Sexton’s selection for the hall of fame derives not so much from his accomplishment around the table, but more from his activities outside the table. Sexton is most known for his efforts in promoting poker in the world. He is also famous for his regular appearance in the WPT.
Sexton’s induction to the Hall of Fame will take place November 7th at the Rio in Las Vegas.
The other 8 finalists, including some of the hottest names in the poker world today: Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey and Eric Seidel, will have to wait until next year.
