Europe Victorious in the WSOPE Caesar’s Cup
Who are better in poker – the Europeans or Americans? Which continent provides the most successful poker pros? If you are a poker fan I am sure you wanted an answer to this question. So, the WSOPE Caesar’s Cup, taking place in the Casino at the Empire, London, September 25, came to deal with this very issue. 8 of the best American poker pros, competing against 8 of the best European poker pros. In a best out of 7 No Limit Holdem heads up matches.
At the end it was Team Europe who put their “hands” where their mouth is. They beat the Americans 4-1, and won the first ever WSOPE Caesar’s Cup and of course the most important prize – Bragging rights.
The winning European team included: Captain Anette Obrestad, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, Patrick Antonius, Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, Dario Minieri, Gus Hansen and Peter Eastgate and Betfair qualifier John Harvey.
American team included Captain Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Huck Seed, Phil Hellmuth, poker legend Doyle Brunson, Jennifer Harman, John Juanda and Barry Greenstein.
Heads up matches saw two players from each team on each side of the table. Europe took the lead early on when Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and Patrick Antonius easily eliminated 7 Golden Bracelets winner Phil Ivey and Huck Seed. 11 Gold Bracelets winner Phil Hellmuth and Captain Daniel Negreanu faced another stinging loss when they were beaten by Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier and Betfair online qualifier John Harvey. Victory of legend Doyle Brunson and Jannifer Harman brought only a temporary relief to team America. Team Europe won the next two matches and the entire event. Peter Eastgate and Gus Hunsen aliminated John Juanda and Barry Greenstein. In the last heads up match European Captain Annette Obresrad beat American Huck Seed.
Now, the only way to restore American pride in this WSOPE series is by winning the WSOPE main event. Stay tuned, poker-on-line will be there to see all the happenings.
