2009 WSOP Update: Thang Luu WINS Event #3
For the second year in a row, and after arriving second in 2007, Thang Luu wins the $1,500 Omaha 8-or-better tournament – Event # 3 in the WSOP. Luu will receive a cash prize of $263,135 along with yet another WSOP golden bracelet. Thang Luu is the second player in WSOP history to make it to the final table at the same event for 3 consecutive years. First player to do so was Johnny Chan. Indeed an exciting spectacle.
But there was one more reason for the excitement and buzz around event #3. This year’s event was the biggest $1,500 Omaha 8-or-better event in the history of the WSOP, with 918 entrants to join in for the game, hoping to win this momentum event, and the sizeable cash prize.
Runner up Ed Smith, who entered the last day as the chip leader, but could not match up with Luu’s hi-lo skills won a $162,110 cash prize, surely a sizeable amount of money.Final table of 9 for the event also included: Ming Reslock in third place, with a cash prize of $106,373, Robert Price in fourth place, with a cash prize of $73,405, Pascal Leyo, Jordan Rich, Jim Geary and Freddy Deeb.
