American Legislation Update - Minnesota
Finaly some good news for poker players in Minnesota. It took around two months of battling, in and out of court rooms, but the Minnesota Department of Public Safety had to eventually forego its demand from Internet Service Providers to block access to online gambling sites.
The Incident started in April 2009 when the DPS sent a letter to 11 ISPs, operating in Minnesota, demanding them to block access to around 200 gambling websites. In response, the Interactive Media & Gaming Association (IMGA) filed a lawsuit against the DPS requesting for a declaratory and injunctive relief, to prevent the enforcement of the DPS demand. IMGA suit used constitutional, free speech rights, to support its claim that the DPS has no authority to force ISPs to block Minnesota residence from accessing the sites.
The lawsuit was dropped after the DPS announced the withdrawal of his demand from the ISPs.
